A Trip in Berlin
series of photos, 1998

An Ibedji-figure from the Yoruba/Nigeria, at the moment part of the collection of Ethnological Museum in Berlin, left its shelf space to explore Berlin within three days. The figure took part in a city tour, watched the television tower, the African district in Berlin-Wedding and visited places, which are associated with the colonial history of Berlin. An object in the classic ethnological museum can not tell a lot, because it is often shown without its context, like an art object. The object remains a mystery and is reduced to its workmanship. The project aims to "give the spirit back", it should become a subject who observes his environment.
